AS Gilas Pilipinas did its final huddle to wrap up a recent practice, a new voice other than Marc Pingris was heard shouting ‘Laban, Pilipinas!’ to which the rest of the team replied ‘Puso!’
The voice belongs to Calvin Abueva, who has taken the initiative to join the Star forward in yelling the national team’s famous battle cry.
Pingris said it was in the Fiba Asia Championship in China last September when the team-up between the hard working forwards started.
“Nagkataon lang na nagkasabay kami,” the Hotshots star said.
Pingris, who has been the voice behind the battle cry for a few years now, doesn’t mind Abueva joining him.
“Masaya ako, para sa bayan eh,” the veteran forward said.
Abueva believes it sounds better when both of them do the honor of shouting the battle cry for the national team that’s preparing for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament next year.
“Dalawa na kami ni Ping, lagi yan,” the Aces forward said. “Mas maganda effort.”
