CHRIS Calaguio said there is nothing final about his comeback from competitive basketball with the Marikina Shoemasters in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
The 43-year-old Calaguio admitted he was offered by Marikina coach Elvis Tolentino to make a comeback in the MPBL, but made it clear he is still thinking about the offer.
“Actually, hindi pa final,” said Calaguio in an interview with SPIN.ph on Sunday during the PBA Legends Faceoff at the Pasig Sports Center. “Humingi ng tulong si coach Elvis sa Marikina. Sabi ko, try ko. Titignan ko muna, pakikiramdaman ko muna katawan ko kung kaya pang competitive. Mga bata kasi kalaban doon.”
“Second, check ko rin time ko. Depende sa flexibility na ibibigay sa akin kung kaya ko at ng oras ko. Pag medyo nagkasundo doon, baka,” Calaguio said.
Calaguio, a former Letran Knight, last played competitive basketball in 2010 with the San Miguel franchise after an eight-year career in the PBA. He also played three years in the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) with the San Juan Knights.
Calaguio showed his fitness level during the opening day of the UNTV Cup PBA Legends Faceoff at the Pasig Sports Center. Playing for San Miguel in the tournament, Calaguio topscored for the Beermen with 16 points in their 88-68 win over Purefoods.
Calaguio said he has kept himself in shape over the past few years through biking and joining races, but not in basketball.
“More on bike ako. I join races, enduro and downhill races. Mindset ko, pam-bike eh. ‘Yung opportunity na binubuksan ni Elvis, basketball,” said Calaguio.
Calaguio though is open to helping Tolentino.
“Not totally competitive. Siguro to guide ‘yung mga young players niya, puwede. Baka playing coach siguro, ewan natin. Wala pang final,” Calaguio said.
