BATAAN scored an 84-78 victory over Navotas on Wednesday in the MPBL Datu Cup at the People’s Center in Balanga.
The Risers scored their 17th win in 19 games, a game and a half ahead of San Juan, Manila and Makati.
The Knights, the Stars and the Super Crunch are bunched at second to fourth places at 16-4 in the northern division.
Yvan Ludovice shattered the game’s final deadlock with a jumper at the 2:26 mark, 80-78.
Both teams had a two-minute dry spell, but in the crucial seconds of the game, Ludovice, Byron Villarias, Pamboy Raymundo and Richard Escoto made the big plays.
Villarias hit a short stab that gave the Risers an 82-78 lead with 24 seconds left.
The Clutch couldn’t come up with a better execution, seeing veteran Jojo Duncil committing two crucial turnovers, while missing their next offensive thrusts.
Makati extended its winning streak to 10 after adding lowly Rizal to its list of victims, 66-55.
