BULACAN State University nabbed a crucial win to boost its Final Four bid after beating Colegio de San Lorenzo, 85-84, on Thursday in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) at the Olivarez College Gym.
Dominick Fajardo scored 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Gold Gears, who picked up their fourth win in nine outings to tie the Griffins for fourth place in the team standings with three games to play before the end of the eliminations.
Leonard De Leon had 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals for the Gold Gears, who clustered 10 straight points to put BulSU ahead 85-78.
The Griffins scored six straight points to cut the deficit to one point, but they fell short after Charles Callano missed a jumper at the buzzer.
“Natalo kami sa first round ng laban namin kaya sabi ko, ipakita namin ‘yung best namin at ipagpatuloy ‘yung transition offense namin at sipag sa depensa,” said BulSU coach Anthony Tayao.
Mark Carongoy had 28 points while CDSL big man Jonjon Gabriel had 21 points but played only 16 minutes after suffering an injury.
