UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help sent University of San Jose-Recoletos crashing back to earth, scoring a 77-59 victory on Saturday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

Even without reigning NCAA MVP Scottie Thompson, who was just about to return from Singapore with the Gilas Cadets, the Altas were still too much for the Jaguars, who were coming off a first-ever win in the summer tournament on Friday.

The Altas notched a second straight win, while dealing the Jaguars their third loss in four games in Group A.

Nigerian big man Bright Akhuetie shone with 19 points, 14 boards, five assists, two blocks, and two steals, while guards Chris Elopre and G-Jay Ylagan picked up the slack left by Thompson.

"Sinubukan ko lang yung iba (kapalit ni Thompson) at nag-step up naman kahit papano," Altas coach Aric del Rosario said.

    The scores:
    UPHSD 77 - Akhuetie 19, Elopre 15, Dagangon 12, Ylagan 12, Oliveria 10, Eze 3, Dizon 2, Gallardo 2, Pido 2, Coronel 0, Tamayo 0, Sadiwa 0, Cabiltes 0.

    USJ-R 59 - Regalado 11, Suano 11, Galvez 8, Bayhonan 7, Villafranca 6, Villarias 4, Labares 3, Gastador 2, Nzuzi 2, Navarra 2, Dinolan 2, Catipay 1, Lajato 0.

    Quarterscores: 20-12; 38-29; 55-43; 77-59.
