NIGERIAN reinforcement Bright Akhuetie scored 15 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and had two blocks to lift Perpetual Help to a 59-47 win over Letran on Thursday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the San Juan Arena.
Gerald Dizon and Chris Elopre had 11 points each for an Altas squad that was without Scottie Thompson, who is playing for the Philippine team in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship in Singapore.
The Altas are also now without last year’s key players Juneric Baloria, Harold Arboleda and Justin Alano, who have exhausted their playing years.
But the new-look Perpetual squad played fine, taking control in the third quarter by outscoring the Knights, 16-6.
“Ngayon lang kami nakapaglaro ng iba kalaban. Almost ilang buwan na na sila sila lang. Kita mo sa first half, wala sa timing. Pero buti bandang second half, nakuha ko na ’yung gusto kong mangyari,” said Perpetual Help coach Aric del Rosario.
Mark Cruz scored 15 points for the Knights, who fell to 1-1.
