JOSE RIZAL University ended St. Clare College’s giant-killing ways with a 78-71 victory on Wednesday at the San Juan Arena to move within a win of a place in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League Sweet 16.

The Heavy Bombers, who improved to a 2-0 win-loss card, derailed the Saints’ bid for a spot in the main tournament.

St. Clare, champion in the National Athletic Association for Schools Colleges and Universities, defeated University of the East in the tournament opener on Tuesday and entered the game hoping to pull off another huge upset.

The Heavy Bombers shoot for a berth in the main tournament when they take on UE on Thursday.

The Red Warriors defeated St. Francis of Assisi, 82-74, to even their record 1-1.

In other matches, Adamson beat Centro Escolar University, 89-70, and will next face Mapua, which downed St. Francis of Assisi College, 74-70.

The winner of the Falcons-Cardinals match-up will advance to the Sweet 16.
