LUIS Antonio Sinco scored crucial baskets in the final minute to lead the College of St. Benilde-A Blazers to a 63-61 upset of the Letran Knights Saturday in the semifinals of the 9th Fr. Martin Cup Collegiate Open basketball tournament.
Sinco made 17 points, including six in the final 53.5 seconds, allowing the Blazers to barge into the winner-take-all finals against defending champion San Beda Red Lions.
The Red Lions, behind Rome de la Rosa and Ola Adeogun, breezed past the Arellano University Chiefs, 75-65, and earned them the right to go for their second consecutive crown since last year.
The Blazers triumph came three weeks after Gabby Velasco came aboard as their new coach.
Commissioner Robert de la Rosa said the final will be on Saturday at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium.
CSB-A fought back from five points down in the last quarter, with Mark Romero forcing a 56-all deadlock with his driving layup in the last 1:53.
Romero showed the way with 24 points for the Blazers, who went on to grab the upperhand with a pair of drives from Sinco, 61-56.
