BIYAHENG SCTEX relied on Raul Soyud and Byron Villarias to pull off a come-from-behind victory over Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, 62-60, on Sunday night for its third straight win in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
Soyud scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half, while Villarias made 15 of his 17 points in the final two periods as SCTEX Road Warriors fought back from 15 points down.
The Road Warriors improved their mark to 3-1 to stay in second place.
The Giants had a 20-2 run in the first quarter but SCTEX chipped away at its deficit then launched a 12-3 run capped by a follow-up by Soyud to gain the lead, 62-57, with two minutes left.
“Maganda na ’yung tinatakbo nung opensa.Sabi ko lang sa kanila, keep on going at ang importante sa atin ’yung depensa,” said SCTEX coach Adonis Tierra.
James Martinez scored 18 points for Jumbo Plastic, a triple to cut SCTEX’s lead to 62-60 with 46 seconds to play but Jay-R Taganas missed a wide-open three on the Giants’ next possession as they fell to 3-3 in the tournament tournament supported by LGR, Spalding, Ambucore, During’s Barbeque and Restaurant, Gerry’s Grill and Hahn Manila.
