BEN Mbala is slowly getting back in the groove as he finally gets a taste of playing college basketball in front of a bigger audience after a long wait in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
The Cameroonian center finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks as the Green Archers ran away with a 97-75 win over University of the East on Friday in a game that was televised on ABS-CBN Sports+Action.
Mbala said he has been waiting for this moment to play in the highest level in college basketball after he making the move from Cebu to Taft - a wait that was extended one year owing to a violation of residency rules.
“After being out for three years, it really feels good to be playing and doing what I love the most which is play basketball,” said the former star of Southwestern University in Cebu.
The La Salle foreign player already had 13 points and 10 rebounds in his Filoil debut against Adamson, but Archers coach Aldin Ayo was happier to see Mbala finally settle down in the game against the UE Warriors.
“Wala na ‘yung gigil,” said Ayo. “’Yung previous game, three years kasi siyang hindi naglaro, he wants to prove himself and sometimes, na-ooverdo niya.”
Ayo said he also likes the attitude of Mbala.
“Very secured ‘yung bata. He wants to win,” said Ayo.
