GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Quezon City defeated Taguig City, 21-16, to capture the Batang Pinoy 2025 boys 3x3 basketball tournament at the Holy Trinity College compound.
Incoming FEU-Diliman Baby Tamaraws Jastien Dagcutan, Anton Lopez, and Duke Andrew Santos, and Garder College's Dominic Joseph Avila copped the crown in the tournament that drew 60 teams.
QC made it to the final in dramatic fashion with Lopez draining a game-winning two-pointer to beat Bacolod Tay Tung-backed Negros Occidental, 21-20.
“Sinunod lang namin ‘yung game plan namin, kung ano ang gabay ng coach namin. ‘Yung chemistry namin, nagtiwala kami sa mga teammates namin kaya nakuha namin ‘yung championship,” Lopez said.
On hitting the game-winning shot in the semifinals, Lopez said: “Sobrang hirap, competitive na laban, grabe. Saludo ako sa Negros Occidental.”
Silver goes to Taguig; bronze to Negros Occidental
Quezon City saw action in Pool P, beating Koronadal, 21-8, and Bayawan, 21-10, but lost to North Cotabato, 21-11.
In the knockout stage, QC routed Panabo City, 21-9, in the last 32, and beat Bacolod City, 19-16, in the last 16. They also downed San Fernando, La Union, 21-12, in the quarterfinals.
Negros Occidental salvaged a bronze medal after a 21-9 win over Davao Occidental.
Taguig City is comprised of LeBron James Toledo, Renz Basilio, Robert Besana, and Hans William Canceran, while Negros Occidental is made up of Paul Barcelona, Thirdy Sebuan, John Steven Sondia, and Alfred Ysulan.
