Batangas City beats Marikina to gain solo third in MPBL south division

THE streak continues for Batangas City and Makati as both teams try to bolster their playoff bid in the MPBL Datu Cup.

Batangas City showed its championship poise in beating home team Marikina, 62-52, to extend its winning run to five games.

The Athletics moved to solo third spot in the southern division with a 9-6 win-los record.

Batangas City bucked the absence of Jeff Viernes, with Moncrief Rogado scoring 19, making 5 of 7 shots from beyond the arc.

Big man Jhaymo Eguilos battled foul trouble but ended up with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds as Batangas City dealt Marikina its sixth straight loss.

Marikina dropped into a tie for 11th to 12th places with the Basilan Steel at 4-9.

Makati also sustained its winning run as the Super Crunch outlasted the Muntinlupa Cagers-Angelis Resort, 52-50.

Makati improved to 10-4 in the tough northern division. Idle Davao Occidental moved to the top at 10-3 while Muntinlupa slips to second spot in the southern division with a 9-3 record.

Muntinlupa has lost three of its last five games under head coach Aldin Ayo, who took over from Aldrin Morante.

Morante was the head coach of Muntinlupa when the team made a sizzling 8-0 run.
