THE Bataan team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) will be revamped after its team owner underwent a change in management, the league confirmed on Saturday in a social media post.
The MPBL said the Risers’ owners in Camaya Coast have terminated an agreement between Zetapro group of Anthony Zubiri, which served as the operator that runs the day-to-day activities of the team.
Camaya Coast will now be operating the team, the league’s statement added.
The league also said Bataan will also have a new set of coaching staff and players following the move, which means PBA champion Jong Uichico, his staff and his players will no longer be part of the revamped Risers squad.
The MPBL didn’t issue any details on the change in management but a source revealed the team has not been receiving their salaries for three months.
Incidentally, the Risers have a scheduled home game on Saturday night against Batangas City Athletics at the Bataan Peoples Center. There was no mention in the league statement on the status of the game.
The Risers are in seventh place in the North Division with a 6-6 record in the Lakan Season. Bataan had a 23-2 record in the elimination round of the Datu Cup, but after winning the first round playoffs against the Caloocan Supremos, the top-seed Risers bowed to the Manila Stars in the conference semifinals.
