BYRON Villarias waxed hot for Bataan as it torched Mindoro, 97-87, to snap its two-game losing streak Saturday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Cup at Angeles University Foundation Gym in Pampanga.
The former Jose Rizal University sniper shot 5-of-8 from beyond the arc as he punctured 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two blocks for the Risers to level their standing at 2-2.
Sean Manganti added 12 points, five boards, and five assists, as Anton Asistio and Mar Villahermosa both got 10 points each.
Bataan held a 17-point lead, 81-64, heading into the payoff period and denied the repeated uprisings from Mindoro which even got to within eight, 95-87, before Santi Santillan canned a pair of freebies in the final 33.0 ticks.
Sandy Cenal registered a double-double for the Tamaraws with his 15 points and 10 rebounds, as Rodel Vaygan imprssed in the losing cause with his 15 points and five boards.
Mindoro remained at the bottom of the standings with its 1-3 card.
