BASKETBALL Super Warrior kicked off on Saturday, drawing more than 60 players in Marikina to participate in this one-of-a-kind competition.
Inspired by the American Ninja Warrior TV show, the participants showcased their basketball skills in completing the obstacle course as fast as they can.
Open to players 15 years old and above, the competition plans to hold five legs in the qualifying round from May to September to determine who gets in the quarterfinals set on October. Fastest finishers will then meet in the semifinals in November to decide who gets to be crowned Basketball Super Warrior in the finals scheduled in December.
Sonny Minoza, chairman and founder of Basketball Super Warrior, has high hopes for the event as he says it not only gives players an alternative basketball activity to enjoy, but also a way to significantly improve their skills.
"If these players can master the skills needed to complete the challenge and if they're able to conquer our obstacles, just imagine what they'll be able to do in actual basketball games," he said.
