    Mar 10, 2014
The 30-player lineup will be further trimmed to 24 before the record attempt.

ORGANIZERS of the Philippine Basketball Marathon 2014 have made a 30 player list recently from which the final 24 will be picked in time for the start of the attempt to set a new world record at the Meralco Gym.

Chuck Williams, Jeffery Moore and Tony Tatar of the US, part of team that set the record in St. Louis, Missouri in 2012, will be joined by 21 others in trying to set a new mark starting on March 24.

The organizers held two grueling tryouts, and the aspiring team members went through an extensive physical screening at Medical City and a panel interview before the training and conditioning workouts.

Thirteen students and 14 other players from different walks of life have made the semifinals, and the final cut will be made next week.

The Guinness record for continuous playing is 112 hours and 13 seconds.

Rizal Technological University’s Kerr Bangeles, Robert Clark Bear, Luis Jay Bolante, Sandy Cenal, Paul Michael de la Pena, Helino Francisco Jr., Harold Lomtong, and Julian Matthew Mendoza made the 30-man list.
