BASILAN proved too much for expansion squad Mindoro, 105-89, to pick up its third straight win and continue its rise in the MPBL Lakan Season.
The Steel scored 62 points inside the shaded lane while forcing their rivals to commit 28 turnovers, resulting in 44 bonus points that made it easy for Basilan to post its sixth win in nine games for fourth spot in the southern division.
Six players ended up in double figures for Basilan, which shot 48-percent from the field (44-of-90) and limited the Mac Baracael-less Mindoro team to just 36-percent shooting (26-of-71).
Shaq Alanes led the way with 16 points, followed by Irven Palencia, who had 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Jhaps Bautista and Gab Dagangon each had 12 markers while Hesed Gabo and Bobby Balucanag contributed 10 apiece for the Steel.
Like Basilan, Caloocan also picked up its third straight win at the expense of Bacolod, 89-74.
Caloocan improved to 4-5 and moved up to 10th spot, just half a game behind Pasay, Quezon City and Bataan and a full game behind sixth placer Bulacan.
Makati shackled Ronjay Buenafe and the rest of the Bicol Volcanoes on the way to an 83-75 triumph.
The Super Crunch forced their rivals to commit 24 turnovers, which they turned into 30 points.
More importantly, Makati limited the production of Buenafe, Bicol’s top scorer who was held to only 10 markers on 3-of-11 shooting.
The win allowed Makati to improve to 6-1 and secure the solo third spot in the tough northern division.
