ALVIN Pasaol saved the day for Balanga Chooks as it scored a thrilling 20-19 victory over world no. 15 Moscow Inanomo in the Doha Masters of the 2019 Fiba 3x3 World Tour at Katara Amphitheatre in Qatar early Friday morning (Manila time).
The UE super scorer drained the game-winning right corner two-pointer in overtime to complete the Philippine team's improbable rise to go 2-0 and barge into the knockout playoffs at the top of Pool C.
Pasaol fired nine points to aid Travis Franklin's 10 point output in the game, where Balanga Chooks missed the services of Santi Santillan, who sprained his left ankle in the game against Riga Ghetto.
Karl Dehesa had a chance to win the game late, but he muffed two free throws that kept the window open for the Russians. Luckily, Moscow Inanomo was not able to capitalize as the 10-minute game clock expired.
But the Filipinos would prevail, with Pasaol answering Yura Bespalov's undergoal stab with a booming long bomb to steal the win and topple the group's heavyweights.
Semen Debda captained Moscow Inanomo with eight points as the Russians take on world no. 3 Riga Ghetto for the pool's last ticket to the quarterfinals.
BALANGA CHOOKS 20 -- Franklin 10, Pasaol 9, Dehesa 1.
MOSCOW INANOMO 19 -- Debda 8, Bergman 5, Bespalov 4, Makshev 2.
