BALANGA completed a hat trick in the second season of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 MelMac Cup, edging Pasig, 21-15, to rule the third leg Saturday at Gold's Gym Sheridan in Mandaluyong.
Santi Santillan cleaned up Karl Dehesa's miss for the game-winning tip-in with 3:13 remaining as the Pure claimed the P100,000 cash prize.
Yet as dominant as Balanga is in the second season, the former La Salle forward refused to step on the brakes in the tourney, which is also presented by Coca-Cola and Gold's Gym.
"Hindi kami pwede makampante kahit naka-tatlo na kami," said Santillan, who finished the contest with six points. "May three legs pa at gusto namin ma-sweep ito."
Alvin Pasaol topscored for the Pure with nine points built on two deuces as he triggered their 6-0 run to break an 11-all deadlock and make it a 17-11 affair.
Dehesa added four points, while Chris de Chavez got two in the win.
Top Filipino player Joshua Munzon fired 10 points for Pasig, which suffered their second runner-up finish in this tourney to take home P30,000.
Phenom Basilan CTC Construction wound up third to bag P20,000.
In the women's division, SM Hypermarket (formerly Blackwater) finally broke through and nipped Ever Bilena, 21-18, to claim the P20,000 prize.
Snow Penaranda got things going early, firing five unanswered points to open the tiff before collecting eight points.
"Talagang ginusto namin manalo kasi may support na kami ng SM," said Penaranda, a product of La Salle. "At least ngayon, natalo na namin yung Ever Bilena."
Chack Cabinbin added seven points, while Eunique Chan had six.
Ria Nabalan paced Ever Bilena with 10 points in the bridesmaid finish to get P10,000.
