BALANGA Chooks bowed out in the group stage of the 2019 Fiba 3x3 World Tour Jeddah Masters after suffering tough defeats on Saturday (Manila time) in Saudi Arabia.
Riga Ghetto was the first to deal the Filipino club a 22-11 trouncing before Lyon survived a late fightback from Balanga to take a 18-14 victory.
By bowing out of Pool A with a 0-2 card, Balanga fell short in its bid forone of the last two spots in the 2019 Fiba 3x3 World Tour Utsonomiya Final in Japan in November.
Edgars Krumins triggered a 7-0 spurt that turned a 6-all score into a 13-6 Riga advantage, before scoring the final five points including the turnaround jumper that put the outcome beyond doubt with 1:51 left.
He finished with 10 points to pick up the slack for Riga, which missed the services of world No. 1 Karlis Lasmanis, who is out for the season due to a left ankle injury.
Nauris Miezis also poured eight points for the Latvians.
Alvin Pasaol led Balanga with six points, as Santi Santillan had three in the defeat.
Trailing Lyon by eight, 16-8, with 1:09 left, Chris de Chavez led a spirited rally for the Filipinos, burying three straight long bombs that sliced the lead down to three, 18-15, with 26 seconds left.
Hervé Touré, however, put the game away for the French squad by drilling the dagger jumper for the biggest of his seven points.
De Chavez led Balanga with six points, as Pasaol was held to just five.
