BACOOR City arrested a two-game slide by thwarting Navotas, 87-78, on Friday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Cup at the Olivarez College Gym in Parañaque.
Fil-American Nick Demusis came through with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Strikers remained at solo second in the South Division on a 16-5 win-loss record.
"Kailangan talaga namin manalo kasi mahirap kapag natatluhan kami eh, sobrang bigat sa standing namin yun," said Bacoor assistant coach Aldrin Morante.
Michael Cañete topscored for the Strikers with 22 points while Oping Sumalinog and RJ Ramirez added 12 and 10 markers, respectively.
Up by just four heading into the fourth quarter, Bacoor unleashed a 17-6 run capped by Demusis' putback off Michael Cañete's miss to build a 15-point cushion with 4:18 left.
Navotas big man Mark Guillen hit the showers early after punching Striker Michael Mabulac in the back, leading a disqualifying foul at the 4:47 mark of the second frame.
That commotion lit a fire in Bacoor, which ended the first half on a 13-6 run to establish a double-digit margin at the break, 45-34.
The Strikers played their third-straight game without top gun Gab Banal as he is still recovering from dengue, but Morante shared that he already joined the team practice two days ago.
Captain Jhong Bondoc tallied a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards for Navotas, which slid to 5-13. Justin Valencia
