WILLIAM Navarro had his breakout game as Ateneo inched closer to a podium finish after a 98-65 drubbing of Lithuanian pro side Atletas in the 40th William Jones Cup on Friday in Taiwan.
The win was the Blue Eagles’ third straight win as they moved up to solo fourth with a 4-2 record behind Canada, Iran and hosts Chinese Taipei Blue.
The reigning UAAP champions play the hosts' national team in a crucial tussle on Saturday, 7 p.m. as they look to strengthen their bid for a place in the Top Three.
Navarro fired 20 points to go along five rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead the Blue Eagles’ attack. He conspired with Thirdy Ravena and Angelo Kouame in the backbreaking third period, 68-34, that took the fight out of Lithuania for good.
Kouame added 19 points and five rebounds as three other Ateneo players breached double digits. Ravena added 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, as Mike Nieto and Isaac Go added 10 points apiece.
Zygimantas Jocys scored 20 points to lead Lithuania, which dropped to 1-6.
