Ateneo de Davao's Big Three of Francis Gabriel Escandor, Axel Doromal and Ion Angeles live up to expectations.

ATENEO de Davao University exacted revenge against Assumption College of Davao, scoring a 69-59 victory to rule the Flying V Junior Invitational basketball crown at the Flying V RMC Gym.

Francis Gabriel Escandor, who played despite being ill the past two games, hit two triples in an 8-0 spurt in the homestretch that secured the win for the Blue Knights after the Warriors had closed in at 56-59 at the two-minute mark.

Axel Doromal, Ateneo’s new recruit from ACD, stripped AJ Royo and streaked home for a layup to seal the win.

Ateneo de Davao’s ‘Big Three’ of Escandor, Doromal and Ion Angeles had 11 points apiece, while Chris Bacalso and Josh Barrientos added nine markers each.

“Vastly different, it’s like we had a new team playing here. Think that’s the effect of the poor showing we had in the last tournament so everyone woke up this time,” said Ateneo de Davao coach Miggy Solitaria.
