ATENEO punched its ticket to the AsiaBasket finals after beating Sanzar Pharmaceuticals, 89-79, on Friday at the Villar Coliseum.
The Blue Eagles will face College of St. Benilde, which beat a Gerald Anderson-led Corsa Tires side on the way to the championship match on Sunday.
Ballungay leads Ateneo again
Kai Ballungay, who was unable to join the team in warm-ups after getting caught in traffic, led Ateneo with 17 points, six rebounds, and an assist.
Ateneo finished with a 6-0 while CSB gained the other finals berth with its 3-3 card.
Although the Blue Eagles defeated CSB in the eliminations, coach Sandy Arespacochaga expects to face a different team in the finals.
“It’s a very good team with good coaches, they earned the right [to be] in this finals," he said. "They cannot be beaten easily, given that they came from a 0-3 [win-loss] and made a three-win run to be here.
"We will prepare.”
