ATENEO bounced back from a slow start to beat Perpetual Help, 68-59, on Tuesday and advance to the semifinals of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
Adrian Wong finished with 13 points and five assists while Chibueze Ikeh added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Eagles, who recovered from a 10-0 deficit in the first quarter.
Anton Asistio added 12 points for Ateneo, which went on a 7-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to take command for good.
Ateneo will now take on the winner of the Far Eastern University-La Salle match in the semifinal round slated on Friday in what has been a tumultuous preseason for the Blue Eagles.
The Blue Eagles lost seven players including top prospect CJ Perez after they failed to pass the stringent academic requirements of the school.
“So far, in our Filoil tournament we’ve encountered some up and downs on and off the court,” said Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga. "We like to continue learning through all these ups and downs. It’s good to get this win and have the opportunity to play one more game.”
Bright Akhuetie had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Altas.
