SAN Beda College survived an early explosion from Ed Daquioag, pulled away from University of Santo Tomas in the second half and romped to a 74-64 win on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
The Red Lions saw the Growling Tigers star pump in 20 points in 16 minutes in the first half, before banking on a balanced attack to secure the one-sided result in the marquee matchup between NCAA and UAAP teams.
Art de la Cruz fired 15 points, leading six players who scored at least eight points for the Lions, who registered a second successive win in Group B.
Daquioag added nine points in the second half, but Mario Bonleon (15 points, nine boards) and Jon Sheriff (10 points, seven rebounds, three assists) were the only other Tigers who scored in twin digits as the team dropped a second game against one win.
"We’re glad to limit the other (UST) guys," Lions coach Jamike Jarin said. "I'm happy, but I'm not satisfied with our performance."
That despite the Lions leading most of the way and never allowing the Tigers to come closer than 10 points in the final frame.
