Cameroonian recruit Ben Mbala comes up big again to help the SWU Cobras even their win-loss record to 2-2.

CEBU CITY — Southwestern University got back to winning ways, demolishing Cebu Institute of Technology-University 101-74 in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Monbert Arong, who missed the previous game because of an injury, exploded for 31 points including six three-pointers and also had seven rebounds and three assists. Cameroonian reinforcement Ben Mbala added 26 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks for the Cobras, which evened their win-loss record to 2-2.

Mbala set the tone early for the Cobras as he dominated down low, scoring eight in the first canto to push SWU to a 24-13 lead. The Cobras went on an 11-3 run in the second behind the team’s other Cameroonian import Justin Aboude that got them a 46-30 halftime lead.

CIT-U trimmed the deficit down to 10 on several occasions during the third period but SWU thwarted the comebacks each time and pushed the lead to a high of 30 at 101-71.
