ARELLANO debuted in style in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup, downing University of Perpetual Help, 74-65, Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Levi Hernandez led four Arellano scorers in double figures with 13 points, while Gio Jalalon and James Forrester each had 12 markers.
The Chiefs led the Altas, a Final Four team in the NCAA last season, from the start and built a 26-12 lead after the first quarter. They stretched it to 17 at the half and never really looked in danger even after Perpetual Help cut down the deficit to a single digit in the second half.
“I thought we did a good job defensively,” said Arellano coach Koy Banal. “But down the stretch, we were not able to hold our own that is why we allowed them to score. But I thought we did a good job early on.”
Juneric Baloria had a game-high 22 points for the Altas, who missed the services of the injured Earl Thompson.
Nosa Omorogbe had a double-double for Perpetual with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Harold Arboleda added 14 markers.
