ARELLANO beat Adamson, 84-79, to capture the 22nd Fr. Martin Cup Summer Basketball Tournament on Thursday at the San Beda gym.
Jio Jalalon converted a jumper with 2:13 left as the Chiefs took an 80-76 advantage and held on.
The Chiefs came up with the critical basket after the Falcons came to within 76-75 after nearly overhauling a 74-64 lead in the fourth period.
Arellano won the Fr. Martin Cup for its second straight title after winning the Collegiate Open a few months ago. The Summer Cup served as a perfect tune-up for the NCAA, according to Arellano coach Jerry Codinera.
“Bihira mangyari ang mag-back-to-back,” said Codinera after the title game. “Grabe ang laban. Pahirap nang pahirap. Lahat ng best teams kasi ng NCAA nandito.”
Days later, the Chiefs settled for second place when they lost to La Salle in the Filoil championship game, capping off their preseason that also saw them win the Got Skills preseason and pocket tournaments in the provinces.
