De La Salle kept its poise in the end game and defeated NCAA champion San Beda, 50-46, Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Arena to reach the finals of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup.

Almond Vosotros hit a key three-pointer to help the Archers earn an unlikely trip to the championship match of the preseason tournament at the expense of the Red Lions, who came into the game undefeated in nine games.

Vosotros broke a 40-40 deadlock with a three-pointer, one of only two for the team, at the two-minute 24-second mark of the fourth period. Although San Beda kept making shots, the Green Archers always had an answer, with Norbert Torres converting a three-point play and L.A. Revilla hitting all four of his free throws in the crucial moments to seal the win.

Torres finished with 12 points and LA Revilla nine.

De La Salle will face another unbeaten team in National University after the Bulldogs claimed their 10th victory of the tournament against Ateneo in the other semifinal.

“We faced a tough team. I just appreciate my players working hard. Talagang pinaghirapan nila itong panalong ito,” said Acrhers coach Gee Abanilla.

The championship match is set on June 12 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

It was a tough defensive battle with neither team converting more than 33 percent from the field.

“I think our job of limiting our opponents to 40 percent is good enough for us. We played decent defense, but unfortunately, we had a horrible field goal shooting,” said Abanilla.
