UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas center Karim Abdul has apologized for coming in late for the team’s Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup game against Letran on Saturday.
Still he expects a mouthful from UST coach Pido Jarencio in practice.
Abdul arrived at The Arena in San Juan with the second half of the Tigers' game against the Knights well underway and a furious Jarencio ordered the Cameroonian out of the venue.
Abdul explained that he thought the game was scheduled for 2 p.m. and not 12 noon. He also claimed losing his mobile phone recently, the reason he didn't get the frantic calls from the team as the game neared.
Now he's bracing for the worst from his fiery coach.
“Of course (coach Pido’s) mad," said the apologetic slotman. "He’s definitely going to show it in practice."
Jarencio, one of the most outspoken coaches in the college game, has already aired his displeasure over the tardiness of Abdul and Aljon Mariano, who arrived in the first half but was allowed to suit up.
The UST coach said no player should expect 'star treatment' in his team.
“Walang Nora Aunor sa team ko. Si FPJ (Fernando Poe, Jr.) lang at ako yun,” said Jarencio.
Abdul, however, was able to play for Dolphins United in its football game against Agila FC in Division 2 of the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium.
Abdul plays goalkeeper for the seventh-running squad.
