FRUSTRATIONS continued to mount for the Cebu City Sharks-Casino Ethyl Alcohol as the downward spiral continued on Tuesday night after they got blown out by the Imus Bandera, 61-90, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup over at the Imus City Sports Complex.
The Sharks were within two, 32-34, at halftime when the wheels suddenly fell off in the third, where they got outscored, 11-30, and eventually lose their seventh game against a single win, the worst record in the league.
The Cebuanos trailed by as much as 31 points in the game.
Patrick Cabahug and William McAloney led the Sharks with 15 points each, but the team's top scorers weren't spared of the disappointment amid the tailspin.
“All I can say is that I did not sign up to lose every game. Hanggang sa makakaya ko, I will try to gather the team and get us all together on one page,” shared Cabahug, who nonetheless added that it’s not too late to turn things around.
“Sobrang taas na ng frustrations ng team namin ngayon, but its not too late pa para mag give up na kami. As a veteran, I need to gather my teammates and voice out kung anong dapat i-fix sa team and ask ourselves kung ano talaga goal namin sa isa’t-isa.”
Cebu team manager Mark Castillo said the young ballclub is willing to go through the process.
“It’s but normal for a team to lose games especially if you’re an expansion team from the south and representing Cebu City at that and a very known company. This is a young core of players who's just experiencing how competitive basketball here in Manila is," Castillo said.
“But still we are working hard and telling them to work hard in practice and let the past games be a lesson on how to adjust. It’s unfortunate lang na there were close games that we ended up on the losing end.”
