PAYING it forward in her own way, global talent Jack Animam held her first free youth basketball camp on Saturday in her hometown of Malolos, Bulacan.
The Gilas Pilipinas Women mainstay gathered boys and girls aged 13 to 17 for a full day of basketball 101s and advanced lectures on fundamentals at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.

For Animam, this was her way of giving back to the community that first ignited her fire for the game.
“Now with my experience playing abroad and with Gilas since I was 13 years old, it’s my time to pay it forward,” she said.
“Growing up, wala akong nakitang ganitong oportunidad, hindi ko alam na may women’s basketball pala… That’s why I’m holding this for free. This is the place where I started my dreams, and now that I’m in a position to give back, it’s only fitting for me to do it here,” she added.
Over 20 kids joined the event despite shaky weather conditions over the weekend.

Since the camp was free, Animam expressed gratitude to several brands that willingly sponsored the event. Through them, participants were able to take home a full package of shirts, basketballs, trophies, and medals.

Gilas Women’s head coach Pat Aquino—Animam’s longtime mentor-turned-close friend—also made an appearance to share his mind.
Animam hopes to hold more camps like this in the future.
