MALOLOS CITY — Andrian Celada hit critical baskets in the end game to give Kiefer Ravena and Mighty Sports a winning debut win in the PCBL Chairman’s Cup - a 79-70 win over reigning champion Jumbo Plastic Linoleum on Sunday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
Celada sparked a 12-0 runby hitting three three-pointers in the final quarter, the last putting Mighty Sports ahead, 74-68, with 2:19 left.
Celada’s heroics complemented a decent debut for Ravena, who finished with 16 points, five assists, and three steals in his first game in the PCBL following his stint with Ateneo in the UAAP.
Bright Akhuetie led the way with 21 points and 18 rebounds for Mighty Sports, which trailed, 45-59, in the third before coming alive in the stretch run.
Mighty Sports coach Mike Fermin said he is happy with the first win, given the team's brief preparation for the game.
“Talagang bago ‘yung team. Three weeks pa lang kami so very raw. Ang naging advantage lang namin is the desire to win. They refused to lose,” Fermin said.
James Martinez and Jeff Viernes had 19 points each for Jumbo Plastic, which won the inaugural Founders’ Cup last year.
