1BATAAN Risers reigned supreme in the first leg of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 President's Cup, edging Pasig Grindhouse Kings, 19-18 in the finals on Saturday at SM Megamall Events Center in Mandaluyong.
Alvin Pasaol and Santi Santillan conspired in leading Bataan to the crown as they survived a challenge from preseason champion Pasig.
The Risers looked poised to take an easy win after a pair of Pasaol freebies gave them a 16-11 lead.
But Taylor Statham willed the Kings back in the game, before Joshua Munzon's two-pointer put their side up, 18-17 with 55 seconds to play.
Santillan forced his way inside as Bataan retook the lead, 19-18 in the final 30 ticks.
Munzon tried to steal the game for Pasig with a long bomb from the top of the arc, but that fell way short.
Pasaol and Santillan both had seven points, while Manganti added five.
Anton Asistio completed the crew, which took home the P100,000 cash prize.
"Sobrang saya namin kasi nag-work hard talaga kami," said Pasaol after pulling off the upset against the preseason favorites.
"Tinalo namin sila sa sipag siguro. Wala na kaming ibang strategy kasi sobrang laki nila. Underdog na nga kami, undersized pa kami."
Dylan Ababou paced Pasig with seven points, while Statham had six.
Kobe Paras ruled the Dunk Contest with his one-handed tomahawk jam over four slouched referees to garner 49 points from the judges to best NU high-flyer Daniel Chatman's 39.
Ababou, meanwhile, won the Three-Point Shootout over Asistio, 6-3.
Bataan 19 - Pasaol 7, Santillan 7, Manganti 5, Asistio 0.
Pasig 18 - Ababou 7, Statham 6, Munzon 4, Rike 1.
