    Altas and Pirates atone for disappointing losses

    UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help and Lyceum bounced back from big losses with convincing wins in the 19th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.

    Juneric Baloria banged in 17 points for the Altas, who beat Fatima University Phoenix, 57-53, while Shaquille Alanes provided 20 points for the Pirates as they prevailed over the Patts College of Aeronautics Sea Horses, 70-57.

    The Altas’ third win in four outings in Group A came after a 72-74 setback to Jose Rizal University.

    The Pirates, meanwhile, picked up their first win in two games in Group A following their heartbreaking 74-80 overtime loss to Ateneo-B.

    In the juniors division, University of Santo Tomas (2-3) defeated University of the Philippines Integrated School, 64-63, while Fatima University stopped Perpetual Help, 52-51.

    In women’s play, UST beat Fatima in a low-scoring game, 39-26.

    Commissioner Robert de la Rosa said the top two finishers from each bracket will advance to the semifinals.
