ALGIN Andaya was named MVP of the Nike Rise program at the end of the reality basketball documentary on Sunday.
The pride of Navotas beat out 11 others for the individual plum, and will be given the opportunity to try out for Gilas Pilipinas Under-20 national training pool.
Aside from Andaya, also named to the final 12 were Roland Patrick Vinasoy, Kristine ‘Tintin’ Cayabyab, Nelson De Ocera, Dean Fudotan, Kherlie Pino, Jair Borne Marabe, Jude Luke Bulan, Michael Angelo Pingol, Norman Torbelles, John Paul Fernandez, and Vincent Patrick Romero.
The final 12 were announced during the Nike Rise tour featuring NBA superstar Lebron James at the Mall of Asia Arena last Thursday.
The six-week training came to a close as the Nike Rise players lost to the Nike All-Stars, 73-97, in their final game at the House of Rise in Mandaluyong City.
Rossini ‘Chini’ Briana Espinas, the other female player who took part in the program, and John Lester Tobilla also played along with the final 12-man team, with former Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes serving as head trainer in the game against the Nike All-Stars.
The Nike All-Stars were composed of Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo, Allana Lim of Perlas Pilipinas, Ricci Rivero of La Salle Greenhills, Jolo Mendoza, Gian Mamuyac, and Shaun Ildefonso of the Ateneo juniors squad, Aljun Melecio, Brent Paraiso, and Martin Romero of De La Salle-Zobel.
