Nigerian reinforcement Akhuetie Bright leads way as Perpetual Help beats Arellano to rule Fr. Martin Cup

NIGERIAN cager Akhuetie Bright had 18 points, while Scottie Thompson added 17 markers as University of Perpetual Help defeated Arellano University, 79-70, recently to capture the 11th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup.

Kenneth Oliveria scored 15 points for the Altas, who won the Fr. Martin title for the second straight time after claiming the Summer Cup last June.

Bright, Thompson, and Oliveria scored the crucial baskets for the Altas, who gained control after trailing 68-67 in the final period.

Jiovanni Jalalon had 20 points for the Chiefs.

The Altas made it to the finals after beating San Beda, 73-66, while the Chiefs downed University of the East, 73-64.

The 21st Fr. Martin Summer Invitational Cup will start on April 11 with competitions in the men’s, women’s and juniors divisions.
