Aguilar cut, offered job as practice player by Warriors in D-League

    Nov 22, 2012

JAPETH AGUILAR has been officially cut from the Santa Cruz Warriors’ 2012-2013 NBA DLeague roster, putting an end to the former Ateneo Blue Eagle’s bid this year to make it to the NBA.

The 6’9” Aguilar was put on waivers by the Warriors on the official Nov. 21 NBA D League player transactions.

Aguilar’s Philippine-based agent Marvin Espiritu said his prized ward has been offered a practice player status by Santa Cruz’ head coach Nate Bjorkgren. But he said, Aguilar asked for time to think about the offer.

“Kinausap siya ng coach, at sinabi nga sa kanya na ni-release na siya as of 2 p.m. dun, mga three hours ago sa atin ngayon,” Espiritu told

“He was offered a practice player status, pero sabi niya sa coach, pag-iisipan pa niya. So for now, he has no definite plans yet because he needs time to reflect kung ano gagawin niya,” he added.

Despite the huge setback, Espiritu said Aguilar sounded upbeat and even thankful for being given the opportunity to grow as a player in such a short period of time he tried out in Santa Cruz.

“Thankful daw siya sa opportunity na binigay sa kanya dahil kung meron man siyang na-gain, yun yung feel niya nag-grow yung game niya playing against players at the D League level,” explained Espiritu.

Aguilar will be discussing the Santa Cruz offer with his family in the next few days, according to Espiritu.

And if ever Aguilar decides to return to the Philippines to resume his PBA career, Espiritu added that Talk ‘N Text still has a standing offer for the 2009 PBA top rookie pick.
