Games on Sunday
(Meralco gym, Pasig City)
3 p.m. – AFP vs Senate
4:30 p.m. – NHA vs Malañang-PSC
TWO-time champion Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and National Housing Authority (NHA) hope to live up to their billing this time as they shoot for finals berths against their respective semis rivals in a pair of rubber matches on Sunday at the 6th UNTV Cup at the Meralco gym in Pasig City.
The top seeded AFP Cavaliers clash with the Senate Defenders at 3 p.m. with the former seeking revenge after dropping the opening of their semis series, 74-64, last Sunday.
Seeking their first finals appearance in the annual event organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon, the Defenders are hoping to apply the same tactic that enabled them to get off to a good start the last time.
Expected to lead Senate are Gari Sevilla, Jeff Sanders and Marlon Legaspi – all posted double figures to help the team beat the twice-to-beat AFP.
The Defenders, however, will be without key player James Ryan Mangaran who will serve out his one game suspension.
The NHA Builders will also be handicapped by the absence of Chris Santos when they duel with the Malacañang-Philippine Sports Commission at 4:30 p.m.
Momentum is likewise on the Kamao side after pulling off an 86-82 overtime win over the Builders in Game 1 of their series.
AFP and NHA advanced outright to the semis aside from earning twice-to-beat bonuses for finishing 1-2 at the end of the double-round elims with 9-1 and 8-2 records.
The chosen charity of this year’s champion team shall receive P4 million while the runner-up own charity will receive P2 million.
