ADAMSON University rained triples on Mapua Institute of Technology en route to an 88-79 win on Thursday and a spot in the Sweet 16 of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League at the Arena in San Juan.
Jericho Cruz scored 20 points, including two triples, while Roider Cabrera had 18 with four treys. Ar-rouf Jukipli added 14 with three baskets coming from beyond the arc, and Jansen Rios chipped 10, shooting two of two from the three-point line.
The Falcons were in control throughout, zooming ahead by double digits before easing on the gas in the closing stages of the game.
Joseph Eriobu scored 10 consecutive points, including back-to-back triples, to help the Cardinals move to within, 62-77, at the 7:58 mark of the payoff period.
The Intramuros-based squad then went on a late 15-5 run but the lead was too much to overcome.
Coach Leo Austria’s squad had built a 20-point lead by halftime, 55-35, and extended it to 67-43 early in the third.
“I’m happy to be back in the Sweet 16,” said Adamson coach Leo Austria. “Our outside shooting was the reason kaya lumaki lamang. ‘Yung mga three-point shots.”
Austria also commended his team’s performance in the recently concluded University games, the annual meet among college student-athletes, in Bacolod.
“I think the reason why we beat our opponent was the exposure sa UniGames, because we played good there,” said Austria.
Adamson will face the winner between the University of the East and Jose Rizal University tomorrow in Tanauan, Batangas.
