ADAMSON and National University brought down higher seeded rivals over the weekend and arranged a title clash in the PCABL 11th Freego Cup at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
The fourth-seeded Baby Falcons stunned reigning NCAA champions and No. 1 seed La Salle Greenies, 76-71, to clinch the first final berth in the annual preseason tournament presented by Freego.
Ap Manlapaz produced a double-double performance with 15 points and 12 boards as the Baby Falcons avenged their loss to the Greenies in the first round.
Adamson’s win also snapped La Salle’s seven-game winning streak in the event backed by Choi Garden, CW Home Depot, Powerhouse, and Hapee Toothpaste.
Also delivering significant numbers for Adamson were Adam Doria and Andrew Padilla, who tallied 11 points each, and Joem Sabandal, who contributed 10 points.
The third-seeded Bullpups, on the other hand, got 16 points from their 1-2 punch in Gerry Abadiano and Carl Tamayo to overpower No. 2 Malayan University, 82-72.
Adamson and NU dispute the title 1on Tuesday, also at the same venue.
NU’s gutsy win negated another explosive performance of Clint Escamis, who finished with 31 points aside from posting six boards, four steals and two assists.
