    Feb 22, 2013

ADAMSON dethroned Far Eastern University, 73-60, to set up a title showdown with vastly-improving College of St. Benilde in the 2nd Dickies-FCBL (Filipino-Chinese Basketball League) Women’s Cup Sunday at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.

The Lady Falcons took control of the match starting in the third quarter behind the efforts of Jinky Balasta, Mary Penaranda, Marianne Tongco, and Princess Cochico after engaging the Lady Tams in a see-saw battle in the first half.

Balasta earned the Dickies Player of the Game award after finishing with 19 points, including the three-pointer that fuelled the team’s mighty attack in the third. She also had five boards and three assists.

She got a big help from Penaranda, who scored eight of her 14 markers also in the third. Tongco, on the other hand, wound up with 13 while Cochico chipped in 10.

With the win, Adamson set up a title duel with the Lady Blazers, who pulled off a 65-61 overtime win over sister squad the La Salle Lady Archers through the stellar performance of Mary Grace Dadal.

The one-game face-off of the event backed by Smart Telecom, Powerhouse, CW Home Depot, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, and Hapee Toothpaste is scheduled Saturday at the same venue.

Aside from sending the game into overtime, Dadal knocked in the team’s first basket in the extra period that helped turn things around in favor of St. Benilde. She finished with 17 points aside from posting five boards, four assists, and a steal.

Cassandra Santos paced the Lady Archers with 16 points.
