CEBU CITY — Jericho Cruz and Roider Cabrera came up with the killer blows at crunchtime to help Adamson oust La Salle, 63-56, in the Southern Islands phase of the 2012 Philippine Collegiate Champions League Thursday at the Cebu Coliseum here.
The Falcons are just a win away from the Final Four but standing in their way are the reigning PCCL champions and recent NCAA semifinalist San Sebastian Stags.
It was a sorry loss for La Salle which controlled the match for the first three periods and was ahead, 39-34, at the end of the third canto.
Adamson went on a late rally highlighted by two free throws by Cruz and a three-pointer by Cabrera to take the driver’s seat, 58-52, with 42.6 seconds left in the game, and held on for the win.
The Falcons take on the Stags on Monday.
La Salle got to within two points after a Jarelan Tampus split from the stripe and a three-point play by Norbert Torres, 56-58, with 35 ticks remaining.
But Adamson would not be denied as Cruz drove into the lane and kicked the ball out to an open Cabrera who drained a triple that sealed the win for the Falcons with just 16 seconds on the clock.
Cruz topped Adamson with 17 points, Cabrera finished with 15 markers and Don Trollano added 12.
Jeron Teng and Tampus each had 13 points for the Green Archers, who were without several key players including starting guard LA Revilla.
