Adamson and Chiang Kai Shek College stunned their respective rivals Wednesday to arrange a title showdown in the 9th Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL) Freego Cup at the Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.
The Baby Falcons showed their readiness to contend for the UAAP crown in the coming season by downing the reigning titlists National University Bullpups, 89-76, while the CKSC Blue Dragons turned back the La Salle Greenhills Greenies, 88-69.
The one-game title clash is set Saturday at 1 p.m.
Gerry Abadiano starred for Adamson as he sizzled for 29 points, including 14 in the payoff period that kept the taller and heftier Bullpups at bay in the event also sponsored by Smart, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Hapee Toothpaste, Insular Square (Cebu), and New Pioneer Auto Supply (Cebu).
The game was tight in the first half with both teams tied at 43-all at halftime before Evan Agbong, Jason Celis and Carl Tamayo joined forces with Abadiano to take a 67-60 lead entering the fourth quarter.
It was an all-Adamson show from there as Abadiano put on a shooting clinic that enabled the Baby Falcons to pull away for good.
Adamson’s win was a also fitting gift to Eduard Tio, one of the team’s godfathers who was celebrating his birthday that day.
Abadiano finished with an impressive 10-of-17 shooting from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to claim another Freego Player of the Game award.
The CKSC Dragons, on the other hand, leaned on the quartet of John Galinato, Carl Luciano, Miguel Oczon and Rafael Toribio to beat the Greenies.
The Dragons never encountered trouble from start to finish as they dominated both ends with their ferocious rebounding and sleek running game.
