ADAMSON capitalized on the absence of Allwell Oraeme to hold off Mapua, 85-81, in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
With the Cardinals stalwart and reigning NCAA rookie-MVP serving a suspension, Cherif Papi Sarr wreaked havoc with 27 points, 16 boards, and three blocks to lead the Falcons to their third win in five games in Group B.
“We just had to maximize our strength in this game,” Falcons coach Franz Pumaren said.
The Falcons overhauled an early deficit behind Harold Ng, but the sophomore combo guard’s erratic play down the stretch allowed the Cardinals to trim the lead.
“This is a testament that there’s still work and a lot of adjustments to do,” Pumaren said.
CJ Isit tallied 19 points and boards, while Andoy Estrella put up an all-around effort with 13 points, eight assists, and six caroms that went for naught for the Cardinals, who absorbed a third setback in four games.
