WITH its fine showing in the ongoing UAAP juniors championship, Adamson looms as the biggest threat to Chiang Kai She’s title-retention bid in the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) MEC Network Cup which begins on December 10 at the SGS gym in Quezon City.

For one, the Baby Falcons are still undefeated, having won their first five games, including an upset over reigning champion National University.

“The Baby Falcons could be the tournament’s revelation this time,” said Dickies Underwear’s Rudy Yu, member of the Board of Governors. “They are doing well and they have already beaten the marquee teams.”

Since UAAP schools have yet to win the annual tournament for elite high school teams, Yu said it’s time for Adamson to step up and join the list of champions that also include Hope Christian High School, San Sebastian and San Beda.

“They have strong materials so I believe they have a solid chance to win the title,” added Yu.

Aside from Yu’s Dickies Underwear, also sponsoring the event are Leoncio Chua’s MEC Network, Terry Que’s Poly Gloss Automotive Polyurethane System, Jimi Lim’s Ironcon Builders, Cecilio Pedro’s Hapee Toothpaste, Dioceldo Sy’s Blackwater, Eduard Tio’s Freego and Jimmy dela Cruz’s Ché Lu Bar & Grill.

A former University of Santo Tomas player, Yu acknowledges the presence of 6-foot-6 Carl Tamayo has made the Baby Falcons more formidable.

Adamson has also a bevy of good shooters like Gerry Abadiano, Jason Celis and Encho Serrano.

After beating the Bullpups, 80-67, for their third win, the Baby Falcons also downed the Ateneo Eaglets, 77-65 and last season’s runners-up La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers, 78-53.

“They beat the best teams in the UAAP so don’t be surprised if they end up as winners,” said Yu.

The tournament has also the backing Choi Garden, Hanabishi, World Balance, Davies Paints, and Philippine Airlines.
