A SMALL contingent of Thai fans have travelled to the Philippines to cheer on the Mono Vampire team in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) finals against San Miguel Alab Pilipinas.

Around 20 Thai fans cheered on their squad for Game One won by Alab in overtime, 143-130, at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna last Sunday.

Mono Group senior vice president Jirun Ratthanaviriyachai heads the group of fans who made the trip to the Philippines.

“We want to support the team because they reached the finals. We are here to cheer our team,” said Ratthanaviriyachai through interpreter Toto Selorio, a pastor and a missionary in Thailand who also made the trip for the ABL finals.

The group wore orange during the game and had drums, whistles, horns, and fancy wigs despite being totally outnumbered by the Filipino contingent at their home court.

Expect the group to also be on hand as Mono Vampire tries to tie the series at one game apiece in their best-of-five ABL finals series.

The group said they don’t care if they are outnumbered for Alab’s home games as long as they cheer for their squad.

“We don’t care even though we are outnumbered. They know they are outnumbered but they are here to cheer for Mono,” said Ratthanaviriyachai.
