Taulava fires warning, vows to teach 'pussycat' Smith a lesson

    Jan 15, 2013

SAN Miguel veteran Asi Taulava has fired a warning at Indonesian Warriors big man Richard Smith over what he said was a "cheap shot" by the Fil-American big man at the end of his ABL debut at the weekend.

Tempers flared at the end of the Beermen's victory over the reigning league champions in Jakarta when the 23-year-old Smith shoved Taulava. The two had also figured in several bruising plays during the game.

“I was already walking away and there he goes with his cheap shot," said Taulava who claimed that he and Eric Menk were at the receiving end of Smith’s "dirty plays" all game long.

“I think that’s their game plan - to frustrate us. But sorry, we’re used to it. We’re mature enough to know how to deal with that kind of guy," Taulava added.

Still obviously pissed, the 2003 PBA MVP warned: “I can’t believe he did that to me … Don’t worry, I’ll teach that young guy a lesson. And that’s all bad for him."

Taulava said he tried his best to control his temper during the altercation because he did not want to get suspended in his first ABL game.

“I’m the wrong guy to mess with. He has that to sign out when he gets here. Good luck to him. Richard should learn to read between the lines," the 39-year-old center added.

“He’s a wannabe tough guy on the court. But off the court, I know he’s just a pussycat."
