SAN Miguel Alab Pilipinas finished the year on a high note, beating the Singapore Slingers, 77-71, on Sunday at the Caloocan Sports Complex to keep its unbeaten slate going in the Asean Basketball League.
Alab stayed unbeaten after four games in its final game of 2018, a year that saw the Philippine squad win the 2017-2018 ABL crown last May.
The reigning champion will enter 2019 on top of the standings, winning its third straight home game to extend its best start in franchise history.
PJ Ramos played his best game thus far this season, finishing with 26 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists for Alab Pilipinas, while Renaldo Balkman had 20 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks.
Bobby Ray Parks had 18 points, six rebounds, and three steals for Alab, which pulled away in the second period with an 8-0 run highlighted by a slam by Brandon Rosser to increase its one-point lead to a 30-21 gap.
John Fields, who played for Columbian as import in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, led Singapore with 35 points, while Jerran Young added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Slingers, who fell to 5-3.
The Slingers also trailed by as many as 18 points to suffer their second straight defeat.
